A few things have occurred to me since posting:

I may not have realised that most other people on Facebook don't know what to say to old school friends either. Yes, there is an air of self-focus here and that is part of my problem. Not wanting to be the centre of attention yet being upset is a bizarre contradiction of what I'm like. I can see that it may look like expect the attention to be on me by everyone suddenly sending friends requests as soon as they see my name flash up on another person's profile.

Now comes the embarrassing bit! A while back when I was in the period just after leaving college and I had a free copy of Blitz Basic from PC Plus magazine. As is the norm when you program your first game I did a scrolling shooter. Well it started like a Space Invaders clone but evolved into a scrolling game with a multi level starfield and enemies that could dodge bullets. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted the backups during a system re installation and the whole lot has been lost! It's something I intend to remake and improve on using XNA at some point.

After that I've been doing more test programs for certain functions rather than anything of worth. I started using Turbo Pascal 7 in college and followed using Delphi from cover mounted CDs from PC Plus after I left.

What's kept me from actually carrying out projects is that I seem to lose my concentration. I start to write down ideas and I stop, I start to look at source code and I feel tired. It never used to happen during college. I then find myself thinking over it at night in my head! As far as I can tell I understand the source code from what I read on screen but something stops me. I'm told it's to do with my confidence.

Do you have anything to show? I mean programming-wise? It would be fun to see what you've done so far. You can email me at any address at xnatutorial.com, if you want it to stay private.

Cheers, mate!

Thank you for your kind words Joran.

I'll admit it surprised me when I saw you're comment. Even knowing about how the Technorati system worked didn't prepare me. I've been very stealth-like when posting links to my site. Not wanting to attract too much attention, but hoping someone will come along and look out of interest.

I've taken a while to grow to the online world and still I'm what you might say quiet. I don't comment too often and mostly feel I have little of interest to say. I've kept a small corner on RLLMUK's Surreal FM thread and mostly I've a small group of friends. Either they've noticed me through the thread or they've met me and liked me. Something I attribute to pure luck as I rarely make any kind of move. I'll make a surreal comment and hope someone laughs and likes it. That's how I seem to have made friendships so far.

I'm looking forward to your next tutorials Joran. I seem to be taking the spoken word in more than the written word at the moment - through podcasts with the latest news versus the news on written pages - and this seems to have been the main difference when it comes to why I seem to have taken to your tutorials more than most. It's pushing my confidence in programming back up again.

Hey David!

Great reviews! You've got many good points, and I'll pick up a game or two based on your suggestions. Thank you!

I've read your other blog posts as well, and noticed you that you have an easier time meeting people online than in real life. Who hasn't. I live in Thailand. My family is back in Sweden, and I don't have many friends in the Thai community. My wife works for the embassy, so we go bowling or something once in a while, but I have to say I enjoy being at home more.

I understand that it's beyond choice for you, but I don't think you should beat yourself up too much over preferring your online life. 20% of the western population are introverts, me included, and we don't exactly get energized by social interaction. No, online is nice for many of us.

Nice to see you enjoyed my tutorials - yes pushing yourself to see what you can do is fun sometimes, that's what I'm doing with my tutorials. I'm working on a new set, but was a bit busy this last week. They'll be up shortly. Drop me a line if you have questions, or just feel like it!

Hope you find your path in life,

Cheers!

I started recording some sketches a few weeks ago and I'm considering whether I could use them in a podcast. Thing is some stuff ain't current and well, I dunno whether folks will just cringe in the end.

By the way I was watching a documentary on BBC Three last night where it was claimed that every comedian after 1990 owes a debt to Reeves and Mortimer. Everyone, I would like to say I owe R&M everything!
